Health Information

It is important for every team member to assume that tap water is not safe to drink. Only drink purified water. Bottled drinking water can easily be bought in Ghana. You may also consider bringing a water purifier.

Other common health concerns are:

Dehydration - Be sure to bring at least one water bottle and drink lots of water throughout the day.

Sunburn - Many times the sun is much more intense at our destination than back home.Sunburns can develop quickly, so we recommend that sunscreen frequently be used.

Exhaustion - Jet lag, long days of activities and short nights of sleep require team members to pace themselves.

Insurance and Safety

Short-term mission insurance will be provided for each team member.

Accra has a tropical savanna climate with dry winters. The area within 25 miles of this city is covered by oceans and seas (68%), croplands (19%), and marshes (11%). October is characterized by daily high temperatures, with daily highs of 87°F.

The currency in Ghana is the Cedi.  The exchange rate is approximately 4.67; it does change slightly daily.

There are nine dialects spoken in Ghana, but the main language is English.

The meetings will begin on Friday, March 15, 2019, and will conclude on Friday, March 29, 2019. The orientation will be on Thursday, March 14. All team members should arrive in Accra by Wednesday  evening, March 13, 2019.

VBS Programs

An outline of a sample program, with stories and craft masters, will be sent to each team member. It is suggested that each speaker involve their church members in putting together the VBS program for their meeting site.

Medical Clinics/Health Expos

The type of medical clinics and health expos that will be conducted on this mission project will depend on the type and number of medical personnel that participates. The health expo materials will be sent to each team member, should they desire to participate in the expos.
